Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City! Business Tour Guide

Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam. The town centre is located on the banks of the Saigon River, 37 miles (60 km ) from the South China Sea and also 1,094 miles (1,760 km ) south of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.

Financial Hub of Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City is the financial hub of Vietnam with more than 300,000 businesses in industries like engineering, construction and electronics. It’s a fast-paced city that’s growing quickly both in terms of its industry and its own inhabitants. The town’s vibrant culture and historic ambiance–combined with a positive workforce (many of which have no immediate memories of this war with America that finished in 1975) -have catapulted the city into one of the fastest growing markets in Asia.

Population of the City

The metropolitan region, which is made up of the city center and surrounding cities, is home to over 9 million people, making it the largest metropolitan region in Vietnam and Indochina. Walking through the streets of Ho Chi Minh, one has a feeling of the contemporary mixed with conventional Asian ambiance.

The language is Vietnamese but English is spoken nearly everywhere. All overseas restaurants possess English-speaking staff and many cab drivers speak a little English. The street and shop signs are in Vietnamese. Learning a bit man will make life simpler and attempts to do so will probably be appreciated by the natives.

VISA Information

All overseas visitors are needed to acquire a Visa. A foreigner that comes to reside and operate in Vietnam usually obtains a visa through their sponsoring organization. To get a three- or – work visa, a passport and an invitation or mission letter will have to be produced. The passport using a relevant visa is the most significant file for a foreigner in Vietnam. It’s suggested that all people register with their regional Consulate or Embassy upon arrival in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam Currency

The local money is Vietnam dong (VND). The dong comes in notes and coins, which vary from 200 to 500,000 VND. It’s highly advisable to take US dollars into Vietnam and swap it upon birth. US dollars may be used and altered though dong has become the most commonly used kind of payment for regular purchases such as markets. Larger institutions accept credit cards but they will inflict a 3-5% service fee. Smaller neighborhood markets only accept money.

There are lots of foreign currencies in Ho Chi Minh City and reports are easy to open. Most banks are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 3pm. There are automatic teller machines (ATMs) accessible around the clock throughout Ho Chi Minh City.

The rapid development of the town has produced unbearable traffic throughout town. Since traffic laws aren’t rigorously enforced and driver’s instruction is restricted, patience on the streets is mandatory. Visitors who would like to drive will want to obtain a Vietnamese driving permit. Typically, expats have their own vehicle and driver. People today drive on the ideal side of the street. Ho Chi Minh City does have buses, but they’re quite crowded.

Motorbikes are definitely the most frequent type of transportation. It is not unusual to see entire families on one motorbike. They create crossing the road incredibly hard. Visitors must have the confidence to find a gap in the visitors, make eye contact with any oncoming drivers, and cross gradually, always walking forward, don’t hesitate and don’t step backward.

To travel out the city, there are trains going out each day and you will find rental cars out there. Taking a mini-bus is another choice. These are modest, air-conditioned and tidy.

Expats may want to bring together their beloved designer-label clothing, makeup and sporting products –since the genuine articles are difficult to find in Vietnam. There is more choice when shopping in Ho Chi Minh City than there is in different cities. For large-sized clothing or shoes, it’s encouraged that expats bring enough clothing to last during their stay. Finding apparel that matches can be extremely challenging, though custom tailoring is an alternative.
